Upcoming Annual Philanthropic Events – November 2015

Each November as we near the season of thanks and giving, there are several annual events to get you in the holiday spirit. These events are singularly Austin and represent the philanthropic nature of local residents.

The Junior League of Austin’s A Christmas Affair 2015

A Christmas Affair is the largest fundraiser for The Junior League of Austin and supports their mission in the Austin community. ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas In Texas Y’all! will feature approximately 200 vendors during the annual four-day shopping extravaganza at Palmer Events Center. This event raises approximately $750,000 each year enabling Junior League members to feed 1,600 food-insecure children through its Food in Tummies program, provide 35,000 warm winter coats annually to children in need through Coats for Kids and provide volunteer hours and financial support to over 29 nonprofits in the Austin area. For many Austinites A Christmas Affair signals the beginning of the holiday season. November 18-22, 2015 at Palmer Events Center.  http://jlaustin.org

2015 ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot

Make plans now for you and your family to participate in one of the nations’s largest Turkey Trots on the Thanksgiving morning, November 26, 2015.   This is the 25th anniversary of the race that has been an Austin tradition since 1991.   There will be a 5-mile family fun run, 1-mile walk and a Stepping Stone School Kids K. ThunderCloud donates 100% of the proceeds from the Turkey Trot to Caritas of Austin, a local charity that provides education and support services to the working poor to help them become self-sufficient. Chuy’s Giving To Children ParadeForget your Christmas shopping and to-do lists and enjoy the spirit of Thanksgiving a little longer at the 26th Annual Chuy’s Giving to Children Parade on Saturday, November 28, 2015.   The parade starts at the State Capital at 11th and Congress at 11:00 a.m. and moves south on Congress Avenue to Cesar Chavez Street, lasting approximately one hour. This annual event benefits Operation Blue Santa and at a designated time the entire parade will stop to allow children to donate toys to other children in need. Not only will your kids enjoy giving back they will be delighted by giant balloons, floats, marching bands, their favorite children’s characters and classic cars with Elvis and Santa Claus. http://chuysparade.com
